This is a Hutterite Colony, with whom Swanee's family has been friends for generations. We were warmly welcomed in the living quarters by the head guy, Peter, and his wife and father-in-law. After a treat of colony-made sausage and rhubarb wine, Peter gave us a wonderful tour of the impressive facilities, including the laundry, kitchen, dining room, HVAC, winemaking, metal shop, carpentry shop, mill, and the pig barns....they export pigs to Japan! We were all overwhelmed by the scope of their activities and their hospitality, but I have no pictures, out of respect to their sensibilities.
From Rockport, we made our way to Swanee's hometown, Pendroy, where we rendezvoused with his wife Laura, and son Bjorn, at the world famous Rose Room, for our official reunion dinner. Steaks and shrimp and Landjaeger and Pustefix and Bozo noses galore......and finally the great day was done, and we repaired to our motel in nearby Choteau. The next morning we gathered for coffee and then embarked with Swanee in our Mist Vann, to the grand old Izaak Walton Inn, outside of Glacier Nat'l Park:
Here we met more of Swanee's family, including his newest grandson for a festive luncheon, after which we proceeded into the park, past majestic Lake McDonald
and onward until the road was closed by snow, and we took our leisure on the river bank.
A long drive back to Pendroy, a sunset
and venison steaks (courtesy of Laura and Bjorn) on the barbie. After dinner the Urbanstrasse street sign was conveyed with due ceremony to Swanee.
